Glassy Membrane

Ok it is now October 11th - barely into fall and we are forecast to have snow on thursday and friday!!!! WTF! I haven't even bought the parka yet

2nd upset of the day - the a's getting their ass kicked by some crappy ass michigan team

and i some how mistook the glassy membrane for the dermal root sheath on my histo exam!!!

what is going on - is there a full moon? are the planets out of alignment? Did Vidal Sassoon finally make someone look bad?

anyway - on a happier note. I went to a really interesting Public Health/Ecology conference this last weekend - Eco Health One. And I started my critical care elective. Betty, a dobi, just recently diagnosed with congenital heart failure came in cause she was looking a little pale after her parents had a visit from the electrician. I learned some very valuable lessons from the resident on-call (who stole my pen earlier in the night and admitted while laughing to being a witch to 4th years)

Four signs of atrial fibrillation:

1. Tachycardia
2. Irregularly, irregular rhythm (??) - QRS with no P wave
3. Heart sounds: tennis shoes in a dryer
4. ...and smarty couldn't remember the 4th

How to put on ECG leads:
1. you use your hands to read the newspaper (black and white arms)
2. Christmas is at the end of the year (red and green legs)
3. and since she graduated from Michigan State white and green are always right

she increased the dobi's diltaizam and sent her on her way. all in all it was a lot of fun (the dr only mildly irritated me - but i am still not over the pen) and the other people in the hospital were really nice and helpful.
